soo, here's the plan...

I am going to ride a bicycle from Calgary, Alberta, Canada alll the way to Bluefields, Nicaragua to catch the ferry to the Corn Islands to raise money for the COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER ON LITTLE CORN ISLAND. (That's about 6, 840 km or4, 250 mi !!)

I HAD planned the great divide mountain bike route through Canada and the U.S, however, due to it being so late in the year and the possibility of being stranded in a snow storm off road in remote areas... ( probably not such a great idea!)

....soo, the plan has changed. I will be sticking more to small roads and highways throughout Canada and the US. After crossing the USA; I will keep heading south through Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and FINALLY into my destination country of nicaragua.Most of the trip will be on small roads fairly remote areas and I will be camping as much as possible along the way. (my exact route is still a work in progress and probably will be forever changing.)

..... So MY job is to arrive in one piece on Little Corn Island Nicaragua, hopefully before christmas 2012.

Now YOUR job everyone is to help make sure I'm not the only person who benefits from this trip in the end! Donate some money to help make sure these beautiful people on this beautiful island can broden their horizons and open new learning opportunities as soon as possible.

The learning center will provide computers for use, a vocational library, and other servieces that will open these learning opportunities.

I don't know exactly how much it will take, but everything helps!! Let's get this thing up and fully functional!!!

Just wanted to say thanks guys for all the support!!! I am a bit banged up in the hospital in juigalpa, nicarauga and the moment but I should be good to go in a couple days... back on the bike to finish that last day of riding that I never got done.... thanks again we are so close to reaching the fundraising goal and I am pretty sure I will make it to the island before christmas... thanks again guys. you are all wonderfu people

I crossed my first border yesterday morning and am now in Great Falls, Montana (around 500km from my start point)!!! will be updating my blog before the night is done! I was supposed to be starting on the road today but unfortunately will have to delay my departure to do a grassfire in the area. The fire seems to be undercontrol now but the smoke would pose some health risks. So I will now be starting first thing tomorrow. :-). Wish me luck.
