How often do you stop to think about how fortunate most of us were to be able to get an education and to have decent clothing to go to school in when we we’re children? Unfortunately, not many of us do.
An education is something that most of us take for granted, but in Africa alone, over 40 million children have never set foot in a school because they cannot afford the required school uniform, or because they will have the stigma of having AIDS if they don’t have one. Of all of the many needs of orphans and vulnerable children in the developing world, school uniforms are a need that isn't talked about frequently and doesn't get the media attention of some other struggles. CommonThreadz is committed to changing that.
Without an education, these children are left vulnerable to lives of crime and extreme poverty. A simple school uniform, which costs roughly $15 to $20 to make by seamstresses in the countries we serve, can make all the difference for these deserving young people by giving them the gift of an education, and in turn a better life. While some forms of aid can encourage dependency, the uniforms allow students to create their own strength. The gift of a uniform means education and it means that the child is socially acceptable.
To help raise awareness about the importance of providing orphans and vulnerable children with the school uniforms that they can not afford, but need in order to go to school, we have created the CommonThreadz eBay Auction to benefit CommonThreadz, a 501(c)(3) public charity providing school uniforms to orphans and vulnerable children in the developing world.
To be successful, the CommonThreadz eBay Auction depends upon donations from generous businesses and organizations. All the proceeds from the auction will go directly to CommonThreadz to provide orphans and vulnerable children in developing nations with the chance of an education and social acceptance by providing them with much needed school uniforms. We would like to invite your company to be part of this exciting event by donating merchandise or a gift certificate. This auction will be available to millions of eBay users and will be a great cause-marketing opportunity for your company.
